We recently conducted a webinar on harnessing AI for bilingual and ESL education, which received excellent feedback from participants. During this session, we discussed how teachers can use these new tools to support their work and alleviate the stress of their daily workload.
As experienced educators, we understand that bilingual and ESL teachers often face double the workload, not just in terms of paperwork and district requirements but also due to the need for extensive differentiation. Students in these classrooms are often at various stages of language acquisition, requiring teachers to prepare materials that adapt to this diverse reality while still meeting subject-specific objectives.
This is where AI tools come into play, offering the potential to support teachers in creating tailored materials, presentations, and resources. Among the various AI models we’ve explored, Claude, created by Anthropic, offers powerful tools for educators. In particular, we want to highlight a feature that has recently become available to all users: Artifacts.
What are Claude’s Artifacts?
Artifacts are a feature in Claude that turns conversations with the AI into a more creative and collaborative experience. They provide users with a dedicated window to instantly see, iterate, and build on the work created with Claude. This feature, which was initially available only to paying users, is now accessible to all Claude users across Free, Pro, and Team plans. Claude will automatically create artifacts when appropriate based on the nature of your request. You don’t need to specifically ask for an “artifact” – just clearly state what you need, and Claude will provide the information in the most suitable format.
The Power of Code Generation in Artifacts
One of the most powerful aspects of Claude Artifacts is its ability to generate code for various purposes. For instance, Claude can write code to create interactive quizzes or generate SVG images for visual aids. While these capabilities are impressive, we understand that not all teachers are familiar with coding or may not need such complex tools.
On this page, we’ve included a chatbot that connects directly to Claude, allowing you to interact with it just as you would on Claude’s website. You can use this chatbot to try out the example prompts we’ve provided or to create your own requests tailored to your teaching needs. However, for more advanced features like Artifacts and Projects, you’ll need to visit Claude’s website directly. “Projects” is another powerful feature available on Claude’s website. They allow users to organize and manage multiple conversations and artifacts related to a single topic or goal. For teachers, Projects could be incredibly useful for planning entire units, developing curriculum materials, or collaborating with other educators. For example, you could create a Project for a unit on Ancient Egypt, where you collect lesson plans, activity ideas, reading materials, and assessments all in one place. Projects make it easy to keep your work organized and accessible, streamlining your planning and preparation process.
