Why We Built This
As former classroom teachers, we know firsthand how time-consuming it can be to navigate standards documents, align lesson plans to proficiency levels, and find the right accommodations for each student. When we saw the potential for AI to simplify access to this information, to make it faster, more accurate, and more practical, we decided to build something and give it back to the community.
This is not a commercial product. It is a tool built by educators who have been in the classroom and understand the challenges, especially during the first years of teaching. We designed it for bilingual and ESL teachers in Texas because that is our community, and we believe every teacher deserves access to smart, reliable tools that support their students.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the ELPS?
The English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) are Texas Education Agency standards that outline what English learners should be able to do at each proficiency level. They guide how teachers differentiate instruction, assess language development, and provide appropriate accommodations. The 2026 update introduced a 5-level proficiency scale aligned with TELPAS.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. All reference materials and the first 5 training modules are available without any login. Creating a free account unlocks Modules 6 through 12, the AI lesson planner, and the capstone evaluation for your digital credential.
What is the training course?
The ELPS Online Helper includes a free 12-module training course covering the 2026 ELPS framework. It is designed for preservice teachers and educators new to working with English learners. Each module includes audio introductions, interactive content, and access to an AI study buddy. The course takes about 90 minutes total and can be completed at your own pace.
What is the digital credential?
Upon completing all 12 modules and passing a 32-question capstone evaluation (80% to pass), you receive a verified digital credential worth 1 CPE hour. It is issued through POK (Proof of Knowledge) and compliant with the OpenBadge 3.0 standard. You can share it on LinkedIn, present it to your district, or download it as a PDF. Unlimited retakes, no penalty.
How does the AI lesson planning work?
Select your grade level, subject area, TEKS objective, and student proficiency levels. The AI generates a differentiated lesson plan aligned to both TEKS and ELPS standards. Before the plan reaches your screen, a second AI model verifies the content for accuracy and alignment. You can then customize the plan for your classroom.
Is my data safe?
Yes. We recommend using pseudonyms for student profiles to maintain FERPA compliance. No personally identifiable information is required to use any feature of the tool.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The ELPS Online Helper is fully responsive and works on desktop, tablet, and phone. The reference mode is optimized for quick lookups on mobile devices.
Is this really free?
Yes. The ELPS Online Helper is free for all educators, including the reference tool, AI lesson planner, 12-module training course, and the digital credential. We built it because it is the tool we wished we had.
