Reflections on Time, Family, and Wellness

I want to start by apologizing for my two-month absence from the blog. Life has been demanding lately, with personal responsibilities like caring for my mother’s health and professional commitments, including my doctoral dissertation. These challenges reminded me of the importance of balancing work, health, and family. Tools like OmniFocus kept me organized, while apps like Apple Health and Zoom allowed me to manage my wellness through telemedicine and therapy sessions with doctors in Mexico City. But above all, this time taught me to value simple moments with loved ones—family walks, shared meals, and heartfelt conversations. Time is fleeting, and while tools and strategies help, it’s how we care for ourselves and connect with those we love that truly matters.

Lessons in Resilience and Leadership

In 2007, I discovered the incredible story of Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expedition, a journey that exemplifies resilience and leadership. Shackleton’s mission to cross Antarctica ultimately failed, but his legacy lives on as one of the greatest examples of endurance. After first watching a documentary about his story, I explored further through the book The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition, and recently watched the new National Geographic documentary with my kids. Shackleton’s leadership style was remarkable. Despite facing months of isolation, brutal cold, and constant setbacks, he refused to give up. His understanding of his crew’s needs and his insistence on keeping morale high turned a potential tragedy into a story of survival. Shackleton’s example shows that true leadership balances strength with empathy, a lesson that resonates for anyone guiding others through tough times. For me, Shackleton’s journey is a powerful teaching tool for my own children. His story reminds us all that resilience, perseverance, and hope can carry us through even the most overwhelming challenges.

This new tool, unveiled at the GitHub Universe 2024 conference, provides an interactive environment where users can build projects while receiving real-time guidance tailored to their skill level. It transforms coding education into a process of growth and exploration, allowing learners to experiment, ask questions, and gain confidence. In the post, I highlight an example activity where students use coding to deepen their understanding of scientific concepts. This example illustrates how coding can transform learning into an interactive, real-world experience.
