Books, Birthdays, and the Legacy of Storytelling

After a recent presentation at the 4th Annual Dual Language Symposium hosted by the Texas Association of Bilingual Education I reflected deeply on the power of books and storytelling in my family’s life. Coincidentally that same week was Father’s Day weekend which brought back memories of my grandfather who raised me through stories music and meaningful conversations. Every year around my kids’ birthdays I give them books chosen with love and intention continuing the tradition he started. He often said to read the best books first because life is short. Reading together or discussing these books brings a magic that continues the legacy my grandfather began.
