Focusing your Lesson Plan
When I was teaching in the classroom, working as a bilingual teacher, I created what I called a Focus Page to help me identify the most critical components of any lesson. On that page, I first wrote the lesson objective(s) provided by the curriculum, and then I started answering a series of questions that were designed to help me dissect the learning objective into the most valuable elements regarding the subject matter introduced, as well as the academic language required.
I want to share the Focus Page with you today. I hope you will find it useful for your next lesson planning time. Please, let me know what you think about it.
During my upcoming full-day workshop Three Steps to Review and Master Academic Vocabulary with ELLs, I will be showing how to incorporate TEKS and ELPS when using the Focus Page. If you are in Dallas or McAllen, you are invited to participate.
