Napkin.ai and Visual Communication for Teachers and Administrators

Teachers and administrators using visual communication strategies with Napkin.AI at EnablingLearning.com.

Often, teachers and administrators face the challenge of presenting complex ideas in engaging and accessible ways. Napkin.ai, a user-friendly tool, transforms text into visuals such as infographics, charts, and diagrams, simplifying lesson planning and communication. From improving student engagement to enhancing team meetings and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Napkin.ai helps teachers streamline daily tasks. It also empowers administrators to communicate key data points effectively, making it an invaluable tool for both classroom and administrative use.

Simplifying Lesson Preparation

Teachers are always on the lookout for ways to engage students and explain intricate concepts efficiently. Napkin.ai allows educators to transform lesson notes or teaching points into clear, professional visuals, making lessons more interactive and accessible for students. Whether you’re explaining the water cycle or breaking down historical events, Napkin can turn your text into a diagram or flowchart, helping students visualize the content better.

Versatile Uses in Everyday Teaching

The platform’s ability to create a wide range of visuals also helps teachers create materials tailored to students’ learning needs. For example, science teachers can quickly produce flowcharts for processes, while language arts teachers can develop engaging storyboards or character maps. Napkin.ai’s versatility makes it easy to adapt across subjects, helping to foster student comprehension.

Enhancing Team Meetings and Professional Learning Communities

Beyond the classroom, this tool can play a significant role in team meetings and professional learning communities (PLCs). Administrators and team leaders can use the tool to quickly create visuals summarizing key data points, plans, and progress updates for faculty or district initiatives. By turning complex data into easy-to-understand graphics, Napkin.ai helps educators focus on discussion and action rather than interpretation. It’s particularly useful when presenting strategies, curriculum changes, or goals to colleagues, making professional development sessions more effective.

Supporting Administrator Duties

For administrators, organizing and presenting reports, such as attendance data, academic performance summaries, or strategic plans, can become a streamlined process with Napkin.ai. Instead of sifting through long, text-heavy documents, visuals help communicate essential information to stakeholders in a clearer, more concise manner. This can improve communication between different departments and ensure that meetings run smoothly.

Engaging Parents and the School Community

This AI tool isn’t just useful for classroom teaching; it can also be a powerful tool for parent-teacher communication. Teachers can create infographics that summarize student progress, highlight important school events, or explain new educational methods. By transforming text-heavy reports into visually engaging formats, communication becomes more impactful and memorable.

Easy Customization and Accessibility

One of Napkin.ai’s strengths is its simplicity and customization options. Teachers can take the auto-generated visuals and adjust them according to their specific needs, making them adaptable to individual classroom requirements. The ability to export visuals in different formats, like PNG or PDF, makes it easy to integrate into any platform, be it a digital classroom environment or printed materials.

Napkin.ai is more than just a design tool; it’s a time-saving resource for teachers aiming to improve student engagement and streamline their communication with parents and administrators. Its intuitive design and versatility make it an essential addition to the modern educator’s toolkit.

Visualizing the ExCEL Method with Napkin.ai

I provided Napkin.ai with the following text on the ExCEL Method of Instruction, which outlines its core phases: Explain, Create, Elaborate, and continuous evaluation. This method is one I recommend in my professional development workshops for sheltered instruction with emergent bilinguals. The tool transformed this text into a series of visuals that clearly depict the step-by-step process, illustrating how teachers can integrate content learning with language acquisition for emergent bilingual students. The images I received include flowcharts and diagrams representing the key phases, how they interact, and how evaluation plays a role throughout. These visuals make the instructional method easier to grasp and implement.

ExCEL Method Phases Pyramid: Explain, Create, Elaborate

The ExCEL Method of Instruction is a holistic approach designed to enhance content learning and language acquisition for emergent bilinguals, integrating three core phases: Explain, Create, and Elaborate, with evaluation continuously embedded throughout.

1.- Explain Phase: Teachers introduce new concepts by connecting them to students’ prior knowledge, using visual aids, pre-teaching academic vocabulary, and leveraging technology. Evaluation during this phase involves formative assessments, such as questioning and exit tickets, to check students’ understanding and adjust teaching methods as needed.

Explain Phase Cycle in the ExCEL Method: connect to background knowledge, use visual aids, pre-teach academic vocabulary, utilize technology, evaluate understanding

2.- Create Phase: Students apply their learning through hands-on, collaborative projects that encourage the use of academic language. Technology is integrated for group work, and scaffolds are provided to support language production. Evaluation here involves rubrics, peer reviews, and teacher observations to assess both content understanding and language use.

Components of the Create Phase in the ExCEL method: hands-on learning, collaborative learning, scaffolded language support, structured tasks, technology integration, and evaluation

3.- Elaborate Phase: Students deepen their understanding by applying knowledge in new contexts and engaging in critical thinking through higher-order questions and academic discourse. Technology aids reflection, and evaluation assesses the ability to transfer learning, use academic language, and participate in discussions.

Elaborate Phase in the ExCEL Method: Extend Learning, Encourage Higher-Order Thinking, Technology for Reflection, Academic Discourse

Evaluation as a Continuous Process: Evaluation happens throughout all phases, with formative assessments, peer and self-evaluation, and teacher reflection. This ongoing evaluation helps monitor student progress, refine teaching strategies, and ensure that students are effectively grasping both content and language.

The Verdict

I think the results from Napkin.ai are amazing! It’s incredibly easy to use, and the artificial intelligence behind it is wonderful. On the first try, I received graphic suggestions that perfectly represent the content I provided. There’s a lot of room for customization, and you can format the visuals in different file types, even without background changes. I highly recommend this tool, as it will definitely speed up the process of creating visuals for any task. It’s a true time-saver! Let me know if you try it and what you think about it!

How We Use AI, and Why Our Digital Credentials Require Evidence

When we talk about our work with educators, at conferences and with universities, two questions come up: how do we use AI, and what does our digital credential actually prove? We answered both in writing, in two new pages on our website. The first is a note from our founder, Luis J. Hernández, on how an educator came to build with AI and where we draw the line. The second explains why our digital credentials are issued only when a learner shows the skill, and why that matters for learners and the institutions that prepare them.

One Objective on the Wall. Five Levels in the Room.

Principals want the ELPS posted, but one classroom holds students at five proficiency levels. How do you post one objective for all of them? We answered with something teachers can print and use, the Objectives Card in the ELPS Online Helper: one content objective, one language objective, and a strip showing what meeting it looks like at each level. Here is what it does, what we added after seeing how teachers used it, including a week planner and cards for lessons taught in Spanish, and why it matters in a dual-language classroom.

Verónica Speaks Twelve Languages. The Hard Part Was the Rules.

Verónica, the AI tutor inside our courses and apps, now responds in twelve languages. Arabic, Telugu, Tamil, and Korean joined because districts and teacher preparation faculty kept describing the families they serve. Adding the languages was never the hard part, since these models were multilingual from the start. The hard part was the rules: which characters even count as letters, whether the page or the person gets to decide, and when a tutor should hold the target language instead of following a student into English. Here is what broke, what we changed, and why it matters.

A Certificate No One Can Verify. It Is Just a File.

Most professional certificates share one weakness: confirming they are real means contacting the issuer and waiting, so in practice it rarely happens. A PDF can be edited in a browser. A paper certificate proves only that someone owned a printer. This post makes the case for digital credentials for both learners and institutions, looks at what the 2026 hiring research actually shows, explains why course completion is the wrong trigger for issuing one, and describes transparently how our scored capstone gates work, why we chose the Proof of Knowledge platform, and what we would tell any institution starting from zero.
