Everyone here at Enabling Learning works directly with preservice teachers on a day-to-day basis. Therefore, we know first-hand the challenges college students face as they become teachers of excellence.

Our field of expertise is bilingual and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. To help students in those areas, we have created a series of resources to prepare preservice teachers for today’s new educational and digital landscape.

English as a Second Language Supplemental Online Course

This preparation course for the English as a Second Language Supplemental Exam (154) is for both preservice and inservice Texas teachers. The course modules cover foundational knowledge about ESL theories and current methods used in K-12 classrooms. You will have access to videos, reading, and printable material in PDF format that you can use to practice for the test. You will be able to apply your knowledge in practical ways with multiple quizzes for the different domains evaluated by the exam. You will also receive tips and strategies that will allow you to answer quickly and effectively when taking the test. You will receive a certificate signed by the instructor attesting to 18 hours of instruction. A course created by Dr. Uvaldina Janecek and Luis J. Hernández. Facilitated by Dr. Uvaldina Janecek.

This book has been written to provide you with the information and strategies you need to succeed on the BTLPT (Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test – Spanish). The test that teachers in Texas who want to become certified as bilingual must take. It does not matter if it is the first time you will take the exam or if you have already taken it before (perhaps more than once); whatever your case, this book provides you with everything you need to pass the exam and become a certified bilingual teacher.

You will know with detail what you will be evaluated on. You will find concrete recommendations and specific strategies for each exam domain. Practical information such as word lists and concrete examples are included throughout the book. You will find multiple examples to use on the BTLPT.

With this book, you will receive the necessary strategies and resources that will allow you to:

  • Organize ideas logically and effectively and using a propper academic language.
  • Manage your time to be able to complete the entire exam.
  • Use the appropriate academic vocabulary and be mindful of the proper spelling and grammar.
    – Get to know and apply the rules of orthographic accent (acento ortográfico o tilde).
  • Identify frequently used words that use orthographic accent and avoid common mistakes in the writing section.
  • Use transition words and phrases that allow you to respond fluently and confidently in each of the presented scenarios in the speaking section.
BTLPT Online Course (Spanish)

This BTLPT online preparation course will help you get ready to succeed on the BTLPT exam. You will have access to printable material in PDF format that you can use to practice all the different critical aspects that the exam evaluates. You will be able to review your knowledge in practical ways with short tests available in the modules. You will receive tips and strategies that will allow you to write more quickly, effectively, and answer oral questions with greater confidence.

After completing all the course activities, you will have the opportunity to meet with the instructor and receive specific recommendations in the areas you need to improve to be successful on the exam. During these two meetings, you will receive additional practice activities, and the instructor will be able to answer any questions you might have about the BTLPT.

You can complete this online course at your own pace. It has been organized into the following modules:

  2. Speaking Spanish
  3. Academic vocabulary
  4. Academic vocabulary (Printable Activities)
  5. Domain I: Listening Comprehension
  6. Domain II: Reading Comprehension
  7. Domain III: Oral Expression
  8. Domain IV: Written Expression
  9. How to continue preparing and practicing for the exam
  10. Writing assignments and meetings via Zoom with the instructor.
BTLPT Online Workshops (Spanish)

These are synchronous online workshops that integrate active learning, participant reflection, and skill development through practice. They are workshops with a duration of 2 hours each, where we model specific strategies for each of the domains evaluated by the BTLPT.

You will also receive didactic material that will help you practice the necessary skills and achieve success in each domain. These workshops are held via Google Meet and are offered on different dates and times.
