How Stories and Mental Images Transform Learning
Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools in education, turning even the most abstract concepts into meaningful and memorable lessons. On a recent road trip, I played the audiobook Project Hail Mary for my kids. After a quick stop, my youngest excitedly said, “I want to keep watching the movie!” He wasn’t watching a movie, of course, but the story had sparked such vivid mental images that it felt like he was. This is the magic of storytelling—it engages the imagination, builds emotional connections, and makes ideas come alive. In the classroom, storytelling can do the same, helping students visualize concepts, connect with material on a deeper level, and retain information long after the lesson ends.
