Claude for Teachers: Anthropic’s Free Program for Educators

On July 14, 2026, Anthropic announced Claude for Teachers, a program that gives verified K-12 educators in the United States a full year of free access to premium Claude capabilities. It includes a teaching skills library, lesson planning grounded in evidence-based curricula, class data analysis, and integrations with nine school tools. In this post, we break down what teachers actually get, the privacy commitments behind the program, and the honest caveats, including US-only eligibility. We also added a complete Claude for Teachers topic to our free course, Boosting Productivity with AI for Teachers.

A Good LLM Doesn’t Make a Good Teacher

When people learn that our speaking apps run on advanced AI, they ask which model we use. It is the least interesting part of the story. Choosing a capable model is the easy part; any developer can connect to one. What decides whether a learner actually improves is whether the system understands how people learn to speak a second language. That knowledge does not come from the model. It comes from us, from years in bilingual classrooms, instructional design, and second language acquisition research. This post is about how we build AI tutors as educators, not just engineers.

Why We Built Praxitude AI

For about four years, we have been building AI directly into our online courses, starting with Verónica, a full tutoring system rather than a chatbot. We have helped pre-service and current teachers pass the BTLPT through partnerships with universities and Texas school districts. Then Texas announced it was consolidating the Bilingual Education Supplemental and the BTLPT into the new TExES 165 exam. That change, and the scenario-based practice it demanded, pushed us to build Praxitude AI, a platform that measures what professionals can actually do in realistic situations, in their target language.

Why Modern AI Was Built Multilingual From the Start, and What That Means for Language Learning

Multilingual capability is not a feature that frontier AI labs added on top of an English-only base. It is built into the foundation. Meta now translates 1,600 languages, Google DeepMind covers 400 in pretraining, OpenAI and Anthropic post strong cross-lingual scores, and a 2025 paper showed models can learn new vocabulary from a handful of examples. We walk through what this architecture means for second-language teaching, and how our model-agnostic approach lets us pick the right model for each task in BTLPT, TOEFL, LOTE, AI Language Labs, and Praxitude.

Mastering AI Core Tools for Bilingual Education

Particularly for bilingual and ESL educators. Tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini hold incredible promise, not just as pre-built solutions but as customizable systems tailored to meet the diverse needs of students. In this post, I’ll share insights into why mastering the core functionalities of these AI tools (like APIs, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning) can empower teachers to create innovative, engaging learning environments. Plus, I’ll highlight a free AI course for educators and invite you to my upcoming session at NABE 2025 to dive deeper into these strategies with a downloadable PDF.
